Our client is a Nordic market leader in human resource and financial resource management solutions and serves over 12 000 customers in Nordic countries.
The customer’s HR software application had a long story and a wide range of functionality. However, the new market conditions required a completely new approach to solving the problems of human resource management, implementation of new technologies, and tighter integration with other applications.
The new product had to provide a new look of user interfaces, to raise the usability to a higher level, and to make the application easy and enjoyable in use. Three of the most important areas of strategic resource management — Goal Management & Appraisals, Competence Management, and Salary Review Process — had to get a new life.
The first stage included an in-depth usability research, user interface design using Balsamic Mockups, detailed discussions of possible user behaviour, and business cases, and several rounds of usability tests.
Implementation of three new modules — Perform, Competence and Salary Review — started one by one from scratch, using the newest web technologies, service-oriented approach and AngularJS.
Modules provide a powerful tool to execute company’s business strategies through goal management and appraisals. They manage relevant competence information, based on company's needs for performance-, talent- and succession-planning processes. Besides, they support the salary review process from the first bid, through simulations of the outcome, discussions, and calculations to update the payroll system with the new salaries.
We developed the product in close collaboration with the customer and paid careful attention to the integration with other customer’s products.
The project was done using SCRUM — an Agile management framework.
Outsourcing a significant part of software development to an offshore partner helped the customer to concentrate on its business goals and strategic plans.
