ZAO Arcadia has finished the project of University ITMO students` training “Quality assurance in a SCRUM team developing business applications” performed with assistance of “RUSSOFT” association. 15 students went through the course; later they are going to have internship in the company as well.
This year, the course was focused on SCRUM, one of the most popular present-day software development methodologies. Arcadia`s specialists have gained vast experience and knowledge in using SCRUM. The aim of the course was to show that in the modern software development process quality assurance specialists (testers) became more involved in the software development team work than before.
In spring the students attended a course of theoretical lectures. In June Arcadia`s specialists gave a 6-hour initiation gathering for the group, covering the topics needed to put them into the picture for their future work as interns:
- Modern way of testing: a Microsoft approach;
- Management of software project and role of Q/A specialists: from anarchy to waterfall model;
- Software Q/A tools: based on MS Visual Studio 2010;
- Trends in software development: an architect outlook;
- Agile software projects;
- Q/A specialists in Agile teams.
The students also participated in practical exercise “RUP roles and artifacts in modification of a legacy Web application”.
In July and August, as usual, the students will have their summer internship in Arcadia and get involved in real software development projects. Thus they will be able to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Usually, the best interns get an offering to become part of Arcadia`s team. Combining full-time study in the University with real work in a team of experienced colleagues allows the students to get better education and start their career growth before graduating from the University.
The National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (University ITMO) is the leading Russian higher education institution in advanced science and technology. Collaboration of Arcadia with the University ITMO started 10 years ago. Since 2006, 4th course students can attend special course “Quality assurance”. It was elaborated at the initiative and with active participation of ZAO Arcadia in accordance with the state-of-the-art technologies and trends in software quality assurance.
