Key problems
The customer, whose main focus is e-learning, maintains a huge web-based learning service supporting almost entire learning process for both teachers and students. For example, this system allows users to communicate, manage learning materials, tasks, pass exams, get grades, read news, etc. The new mobile project is intended to give the students possibility to read their learning mail, download materials, get and execute basic types of tasks and do other important operations from their mobile phones. There was also an important requirement to the mobile version: it should support all types of devices including WAP and HTML mobile browsers.
Solution
The solution is based on ASP.NET Mobile technology. It allows to adopt special ASP.NET Mobile controls to any markup language including WAP (any version) and HTML (any version). Every mobile phone sends information about its browser to the web server and the system decides how to represent the graphical interface for each particular device. Session security also depends on the type of phone. Applying of this solution allowed Arcadia to develop and maintain the planned part of e-learning functionality for mobile users and attract more students to use the learning system more intensively.
