Key problems
One of the most important tasks in pharmaceutics is analysis of statistical data about patients (diagnoses, results of observations, etc.). These statistical data may contain information about millions of patients, so there is a need for a good tool to find required data and build appropriate reports.
The purpose of the query wizard is to provide a non-expert tool for data retrieval. The wizard is written in C# as a set of WinForm-based classes, which will be used as a part of the Customer's client application.
Solution
The query wizard applications are implemented as plug-ins to the existing spreadsheet application on Customer's side. Implementation of the query builder is done in a middle-tier component, so that GUI does not make direct requests to the database. Both GUI and query building/execution components belong to the existing application and are physically deployed in the same place. During development Arcadia's team focused on the user-friendliness of the user interface, algorithmic quality of the code and the overall resulting performance.
