Service: re-engineering of existing intranet portal and data migration
Solution type: web application
Business area: online collaboration tools, ECM & document management
Period: 2008
Key problems
The client's existing corporate intranet portal was made using the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2003. This portal served for document and information storage, management and exchange; publishing internal news, storing information about ongoing projects, etc. The corporate intranet included a number of sites: besides a common area, each department had its own site. Every user had a set of rights for access to different sites and functionalities.
Due to the fact that the portal used the old version of MOSS, the web-site needed enhancement of usability and functionality. This task included:
- Implementation and enhancement of the corporate intranet portal functionality using modern technologies
- Data migration of all intranet sites to the new platform without stopping the functioning of the intranet portal.
Solution
Arcadia’s developer team implemented all functionality on the new platform. The task of smooth operation during data migration was solved by gradual migration of intranet sites: one by one, sites moved to the new server with the new platform (allowing to return temporarily to the old version if needed). Only after all the troubleshooting with moved site is done, the team started to migrate the next one.
